A warning for future Mirena IUD users
Birth control is important for females to prevent pregnancy. Many females will choose the pill as their birth control method, simply because it’s convenience. The most prescribed birth control pill are pills containing levonorgestrel and ethenyl estradiol, often called by the brand name Microgynon. This specific type of birth control pill has a fairly androgenic progestin (levonorgestrel).
”Quick explaination about birth control:
Females naturally produce a low amount of testosterone and when ovulating, they produce estrogen. Some of the testosterone will be converted to estrogen through aromatase. When a female uses birth control pills, their natural hormone production will be surpressed. Birth control pills are often combined pills contained a progestin (to surpress ovulation and to compensate the lack of androgenic activity) and a estrogen, often in the form of ethenyl estradiol. ”
There are many reason for females to switch to another birth control pill. For example headaches and migraines are a valid reason to look for a substitute. Many doctors will recommend the Yasmine pill. This pill contains a progestin with a low androgenic activity called ‘Drospirenon’ combined with ethenyl estradiol. This type of pill is very well tolerated by many females. This biggest advantage of the Yasmine pill, is very healthy and strong hair. Thjis type of pill is often recommended when females experience hair loss due to the too androgenic prostin Levonorgestrel. Besides the fact it’s well tolerated, it has some down sides.
For example, many females complain about bloating. Anecdotal evidence found out that females that are activily involved in fitness, experience major bloating, even with a strict diet. The reason for this, is simply because Drospirenon has a too low androgenic activity. The result of this fact, is that females using this birth control pill, will have an issue with estrogen dominance. When females experience estrogen dominance, the body will retain more water and the way the body stores fat is different. You can notice this, because most pill users will gain weight mostly in the thighs, belly area and in their breasts.
Female fitness enthausiasts often consider another type of birth control. One of the alternatives is the Mirena IUD. Mirena also contains the progestin Levonorgestrel. The theory behind this IUD is, when the IUD is inserted, it will locally deliver the progestin Levonorgestrel, this way pregnancy is prevented. Bayer claims that the progestin will not go systemic and won’t cause any side effects. However, one of the most stated side effect is migraines. Migraines are caused by the progestin Levonorgestrel. So the progestin in the Mirena IUD will go systemic.
NoWhen you quit the Yasmin birth control pill and instantly change to the Mirena IUD, there will be some problems no doctor will ever tell you, simply because they are unaware.
Problem 1: When you quit birth control, your natural hormones are surpressed. So you don’t have any estrogen (very very important for healthy hair, hence why females have more scalp hair than males) nor they have any testosterone. Without estrogen, your hair will literally fall out of your head. This is also the reason why females in menopause have thin hair and experience hair loss.
Problem 2: The Mirena IUD contains a highly androgenic progestin Levonorgestrel. Androgenic progestin cause female pattern baldness also know as female alopecia. A highly androgenic progestin combined with a low estrogen environment is the key to insane hair loss. Please be aware of this! It is recommended to use RU58841 when you experience hair loss due to birth control pills or a Mirena IUD.
